The design showcases a central two-story open atrium with translucent skylight punctuated by an actual tiger moth biplane painted in full NMSU regalia to promote the rich aeronautic history of the region. While the 35,000 SF bookstore’s primary focus is to provide the resources required by the student body, it also functions as a vibrant hub for the community on the whole with the help of 2,500 SF of additional retail space and 7,500 SF of university offices.The bookstore includes a Starbucks Café, complete with a custom-built outdoor fireplace. The layout of the bookstore also provides for two informal reading lounges complete with built-in wooden blinds, fireplaces, and audio-video support for guest lecturers, musical performances, and community support groups.
