The Charles

Project description: The Charles, located in Charleston, South Carolina, is part of Antunovich Associates’ collaborative effort with The Beach Company to revitalize a large area near the Ashley River. The project consists of 19 luxurious units designed to evoke the city’s rich architectural history with intricate exterior facades which feature limestone and brick cladding, wrought iron railings, slate roofs, and natural copper downspouts. Each of these elements is meticulously designed to blend into Charleston’s historic district, allude to the city’s storied past, and maintain its architectural identity.
The interior of each townhome merges the neoclassical exterior design with the latest trends in high-end residential architecture. The units range in size from 2,900 to 3,800 SF and maintain a similar layout while adapting to the individual floor plates of each townhome. Each unit features an expansive open plan main floor, anchored by a built-in masonry fireplace. A wood floor characteristic to the region ties the great room, dining room, and high-end kitchen together in an open-plan. An open staircase and convenience elevator vertically connect the main level with the rest of the home, which features a primary living floor with either two or three bedrooms suites - each with high end finishes and fixtures. The third floor houses a spacious den flanked by one or two balconies that provide views of the adjacent park and the Ashley River. Each unit has 10-ft high ceilings throughout and focuses on connecting interior spaces while inviting the outside in.
