The Market Common Clarendon

Location:Arlington, Virginia
Client: McCaffery Interests

Project description: Clarendon was once a major retail and residential hub but lost its retail appeal when anchor stores such as JC Penny, Sears, and others relocated from the area. Similarly, its attraction as a residential area lagged the growth spurt being experienced just over the Key Bridge in Washington, D.C.

When this 9.4-acre site was acquired, an extended period of negotiation and collaboration with the community and the government of Arlington County ensued. The resulting project was The Market Common Clarendon, a unique mixed-use development that has won national and international acclaim. It was named the winner of the prestigious International Award of Excellence by the International Council of Shopping Centers and received an Honor Award from the Urban Land Institute.

Awards:
2001 Washington Business Journal - Best Retail Deal
2001 DeltaAssociates - Mid-Atlantic Community Impact Award for an Apartment Property
2004 International Council of Shopping Centers - International Design and Development Award for Innovative Design and Construction of a New Project
