The District at Clifton Heights
Client: Trinitas
The District at Clifton Heights is an exciting mixed-use development that connects the community and University of Cincinnati campus. Situated on the site of the former Deaconess Hospital (which closed in 2011), the proposed development by Trinitas Ventures will bring vitality to the area--from vibrant streetscapes to retail to residential to hospitality. Located at the corner of Clifton and Straight Street, the District at Clifton Heights would incorporate wide sidewalks that invite pedestrians to explore all there is to offer – shops, restaurants, and entertainment destinations. Buildings spill out into public spaces with benches, lighting, trees, tables, and chairs creating a human scale comfortable for workers, visitors, and residents to gather, mingle, work and contemplate. On-street parking calms traffic and gives motorists convenient opportunities to quickly visit merchants.
As a part of our community engagement, we invited the neighborhood to participate in a week-long planning workshop and community conversation from July 30 to August 3, 2019. In November, we surveyed and spoke to University of Cincinnati students to learn what their needs are and what they'd like to see in the new development. We continue our community discussions and look forward to continuing our engagement with the community, neighborhood, University, City, and stakeholders. We anticipate starting work in spring of 2021 and opening in 2023.
From west to east, Straight Street is filled with things to do and a variety of experiences. The District at Clifton Heights is a place that connects community and campus, creating a vibrant district at the top of Cincinnati.
