3040 M Street

Location:Washington, D.C.
Client: McCaffery Interests

Project description: Designed by architect David L. Stern, the existing 3040 M Street building was constructed as a three-story structure in 1929. The building is a modified international style and housed the first Ford Automobile dealership and garage in the Washington, D.C. area. As such, it is listed as a contributing building within the Georgetown Historic District.

Antunovich Associates partnered with McCaffery to renovate this storied building into a first-class retail property housing a Barnes & Noble Superstore and an Eddie Bauer store.

The exterior of the existing building was restored to meet the guidelines set forth by the Commission of Fine Arts and the District of Columbia Historic Preservation Office.
