Antunovich Associates are collaborating with Core Spaces to construct a new state-of-the-art Mixed-Use Student Residence Building, containing 1,646 beds in Madison, Wisconsin. Located in close proximity to the beautiful University of Wisconsin campus and one block from Iconic State Street, the Madison - Johnson & Broom project will enhance the existing neighborhood with a much-needed student residence option along Johnson Street.
The new Building will house a creative mix of studio, one, two, three, four, and five-bed student apartments with 135 beds and 36 units on a typical residential floor level. A spectacular roof terrace will house a state-of-the-art pool and hot tub. A marvelous lobby, leasing center, and beautiful amenity spaces will be located on the first floor. Parking spaces are provided on the two lower levels within the base of the building along with bike spaces.
Located at the northeast corner of North Frances Street and State Street, the Hub Madison is an anchor building in revitalizing Madison’s State Street corridor. The building houses a creative mix of studio, one, two, three, four and five bedroom student apartments. The building is located less than two blocks east of the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. The building houses a creative mix of studio, one, two, three, four and five bedroom student apartments. Each bedroom contains a private bathroom along with generous living areas.
Terraces are included on lower levels along State Street to improve certain units and to create interest on the building exterior. The second floor of the building houses a state-of-the-art fitness facility and a spectacular amenity area. A dramatic lobby was developed on the ground floor along with a marketing suite and retail shops. Parking spaces are located on two levels behind the first floor retail and residential lobby.
The Scotland AME Zion Church congregation experienced a catastrophic flood in 2019 which resulted in major structural damage to the foundations of the existing chapel. This was a product of the road realignments in the 1960s, which caused the site to regularly flood and subsequently undermined the stability and longevity of the historic building. The physical building has long-standing presence within the community that it serves, and its historic significance is rooted in the cultural & civic resilience of the Church and its community. Our goal was to preserve this historic “place” and provide an addition that would propel the congregation into the next 100 years as the spiritual center for this community. We physically lifted the structure to a higher elevation and raised the surrounding grade to the right a wrong and mitigate future water damage. The new addition includes a larger worship space, restroom facilities, multi-purpose gathering spaces, generous entry lobby and administration office spaces.
1200 Brickyard Lane, for Commercial Properties Realty Trust, lies within The Water Institute of the Gulf Campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Water Institute of the Gulf Campus is an exciting new office and research development on 32 acres alongside the Mississippi River and was formed to bring together the finest collection of engineering and science experts to address and advance innovation in coastal restoration and hurricane protection practices in Southwest Louisiana. 1200 Brickyard Lane joins another Antunovich Associates project, 150 Terrace Street (completed in 2016), which is fully occupied as the Coastal Restoration Protection Agency’s headquarters.
The architecture of the new building was intended to contrast the white ACM panels on 150 Terrace Street to the south. The building was detailed with light grey and dark grey precast architectural panels finished with a “striated rib” form-liner from Architectural Polymers. The random striation width and placement provided an interesting shadowy texture while planters have been integrated at the northeast and southwest creating depth and further playing with shadow.

The second phase of the DePaul School of Music project included remodeling the existing Concert Hall into a dedicated opera performance space. The chapel building - that is renamed the Sasha and Eugene Jarvis Opera Hall - is adapted with the following updates: a motorized operable orchestra pit, a raised stage, tiered seating, lower-level support spaces, enhanced acoustics throughout, and an elaborate system of catwalks. To better isolate the building from the sounds of the urban landscape, all existing fenestration is upgraded for better acoustical performance.

The Jasper’s massing and detailing recalls that of cherished neoclassical structures found throughout downtown Charleston. A traditional base, middle and top is articulated via a pre-cast facade with inlaid brick and vertically proportioned openings in the Charleston vernacular. Fronting Broad Street is the main residential lobby entrance, the office lobby entrance and retail storefronts which wrap the corner and line Barre Street. Formal gardens and drive courts make up half of the site, setting the buildings back from the street and enriching the streetscape, while abundant green roofs provide open space for building tenants and residents.
The Hecht Warehouse is an esteemed Washington D.C. landmark within the emerging neighborhood of Ivy City that has been adaptively-reused to accommodate 335 loft apartment units and over 150,000 SF of lively retail.
The six-story tower was converted to residential and retail space while retaining the historic, iconic glass block exterior along New York Avenue and Fenwick Street. The partial demolition of some existing, non-contributing one-story warehouse additions allows for a thriving new retail street with an additional 50,000 SF of retail space, and ample garage and street parking.
The streetscape features ample shade-providing trees, and broad sidewalks to accommodate outdoor dining, sidewalk cafes, and a medley of other retail stores that support the development of the project and the surrounding area.

Antunovich Associates collaborated with May Riegler Properties to renovate the existing George Mason Hotel building at 699 Prince Street in Alexandria, Virginia, which had been converted to office use in the 1990s and now is reverted to a boutique hotel. In addition to the existing building, a new four-story structure, 114 South Washington St, was constructed to the north, which has a more modern aesthetic to contrast against the Colonial Revival style of 699 Prince Street. Both buildings operate hotel functions and achieve a total of 134 guestrooms. Amenities include a library lounge, meeting rooms, a restaurant with a show kitchen and café, a ballroom, a rooftop terrace, and a speakeasy. Between the two buildings is a widened alley to provide an activated pedestrian and outdoor café experience as well as service access for the development and neighboring properties.
Located in Winfield, Illinois, the Ronald McDonald House near Central DuPage Hospital allows for easy access to all of the care facilities in the western suburbs managed by Central DuPage Hospital, including the Proton Beam Center in nearby Warrenville, Illinois.
The construction phase of this project was completed in eight months and delivered ahead of schedule and under budget. Many of these gains were accomplished by using a panelized framing system fabricated off-site and shipped ready to install. With extensive use of BIM modeling and careful coordination with the general contractor, the project team was able to implement the plumbing, mechanical, and fire protection systems seamlessly into the structures framing before it arrived on site.

We recently completed the restoration of the historic Murphy Auditorium. The work began in the summer of 2023 and included restoring the main auditorium on the ground floor to its original grandeur, enhancing it with modern lighting, and creating a leveled, unified, and accessible seating area to make it a world-class venue for music, events, and programs that support the Museum’s mission and allow it to open its doors wider to the community. The project also renewed former office space above the auditorium to create a dynamic new Learning Center with art and maker studios, new offices, seminar rooms, and an 800-square-foot outdoor terrace on the top floor.

Located just a few blocks from the University of Colorado Campus, oLiv Boulder enhances the existing neighborhood and creates a powerful retail presence along Canyon Boulevard.
The new building houses a creative mix of micro-studio, studio, one, two, three, and four-bedroom apartments. The Market Common Clarendon is a unique mixed-use development, located within the greater Washington D.C. area. Clarendon was once a major retail and residential hub, but anchor stores such as JC Penny, Sears and others relocated from the area and Clarendon lost its retail appeal. Similarly, its appeal as a residential area lagged the growth spurt being experienced just over the Key Bridge.
The 9.4-acre site was acquired and an extended period of negotiation and collaboration with the community and the government of Arlington County ensued. The resulting project has won national and international acclaim. It was named by the International Council of Shopping Centers the winner of the prestigious International Award of Excellence and received an Honor Award from the Urban Land Institute.

As the amplitude of storm surges rise, giving back the generosity of space to our streams and rivers can help avoid future damage and prepare us for the anticipated increased severity. This stream and its narrow funnel points across Seven Locks Road were the main culprits for the regular flooding of the historic Scotland AME Zion Church site in Rockville, Maryland. Antunovich Associates is proud to be doing our part to build back the generosity for watershed paths within our communities.

Antunovich Associates re-imagined a collection of spaces at The Citizen at Shirlington Village. This vibrant apartment complex in Arlington, Virginia is close to picturesque shopping, dining, entertainment venues, and only a few subway stops from downtown Washington D.C.
Drawing inspiration from the locale, the redesign is characterized by the vision that “Everybody has a Story.” Composed of contemporary decorative light fixtures and custom wood millwork that infuse warm elements across a neutral palette, the clubhouse interiors are punctuated by artwork with a witty lens. A grand art mural transforms the space and draws inspiration from the city’s urban identity, while the leasing offices are wrapped in warm wood with brushed brass metal details for an industrial twist.

Douglas Development and Antunovich Associates collaborated on an exciting mixed-use project at 1900 Half Street SE, in the Southeast Waterfront district of Washington, D.C. The Watermark site was home to an 11-story office building of roughly 700,000 total gross square feet, and stands along the banks of the Anacostia River, in what used to be a commercial/industrial area, but is quickly evolving into a vibrant entertainment /mixed-use riverfront community. The new D.C. United soccer stadium and retail project, combined with a proposed extension to the riverwalk to go along with the proposed pedestrian bridge immediately to the East, will transform the neighborhood over the next ten years. Douglas Development supplemented this improvement by converting this office building into a 600,000-square-foot mixed-use retail/residential building.

Congratulations to the @lincoln_common on winning the 2024 @urbanlandinstitute Americas Awards for Excellence! This Mixed-Use development is located on the 6-acre site of the former Children's Memorial Hospital in Lincoln Park.
Our team participated in over 70 community meetings to ensure the design process was collaborative and prioritized the things the community wanted. The master plan is comprised of new and old buildings, making sure the charm of Lincoln Park is seen throughout. Antunovich Associates designed the retail, office, senior living, and condominium buildings, ensuring attention to detail was given to the aesthetic and density the neighborhood deserved.
The Orange-rated 2358 North Lincoln facade was documented and reconstructed by our team, brick by brick. Belmont Village Lincoln Park's exterior was designed to resemble the historic Nellie Black building that previously resided on the site. The brick used was a modified Norman brick that provided the look of a Flemish bond but was installed with a more standard running-bond-like pattern that allowed for easier and quicker installation. While the newly built 32-unit condominium building, The Orchard, was designed to resemble a historic Greystone home.
All of these details, historic and new, help make the Lincoln Common everything it is.
Congratulations to all of our partners on this marvelous honor: McCaffery Interests, @hines, @weoneil, @skidmoreowingsmerrill

Serving as the gateway into New Mexico State University from the town of Las Cruces, the NMSU Bookstore inspires a strengthened synthesis of the university and community. This LEED Gold Level certified, two-story, “Town and Gown” building was designed to be reminiscent of other historical buildings in the surrounding areas while establishing a strong retail presence and connection to the immediate community.
