PROJECT DETAILS:

This project recreated the missing original cornice on the Halsted Street and Madison Street facades for the (former) Mid-City Trust & Savings Bank building, a Chicago Landmark. Originally a terra-cotta cornice, the recreated cornice was fabricated in Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) panels to match the color and finish of the existing terra-cotta trim on the building and projects approximately 3 feet out from the existing face-brick parapet, with a return to the building's west facade at the alley. The cornice will be approx. 133-feet long on the Halsted Street facade and 126 feet on the Madison Street facade. The GRFC panels are connected to a new steel outrigger system, which is fastened to the base building steel columns. Additionally, an asphaltic coating was removed from the east parapet face-brick and triglyphs. The face brick on the east and west parapets was cleaned and repainted as required.
The former Mid-City Trust & Savings Bank building was selected as the beneficiary of the City of Chicago's Adopt-A-Landmark program.
