Driehaus Securities
architecture
Driehaus Securities Corporation renovated the former Cable Mansion for its new headquarters in Chicago. Designed in the Richardsonian Romanesque style by the eminent architectural partnership of Cobb and Frost, the house was built in 1885-86 for the family of the president of Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway Company, Ransom R. Cable.
The building has been meticulously restored to its former elegance, conforming to the strict guidelines established by the City of Chicago Historic Preservation Commission. Period lighting fixtures were installed along Wabash and Erie Streets adjacent to the property, along with new trees, landscaping, and landscape planters.
The house’s interior was reconstructed to meet the requirements of the Driehaus Securities Corporation while being sympathetic to the elegance of the original building. Extensive use of wood moldings, marble inlay, and plaster details have recaptured the building’s glorious past.
